Summer Poetry Project

The kids had a great time working on the classic poem “Wynken, Blynken, and Nod” by Eugene Field as a choral spoken-word project. The poem was originally published in 1889 under the title “A Dutch Lullaby.” The poem has been set to music and recorded by many pop music artists like Lucy and Carly Simon, the Doobie Brothers and Goldie Hawn. Our theme this year for the summer library program was “Oceans of Possibilities,” so we chose this story about three fishermen who go to a magical sea at night to fish. It was fun to work on such an imaginative poem and be able to interpret it with a large dose of whimsy.
